What a weekend! We started off leaving Toronto just in time before the storm hit us and reunited in Huntsville for dinner where we met up with Larry (by this time the storm had left the Huntsville area). Our original plans were to have dinner at Kelsey’s but the wait list indicated 30 minutes so we opted to go elsewhere. Luck was definitely not in our side as we soon found out (half an hour later) that the storm had created a power outage in the area and that most places were closed for the evening. After much debate, we ended up eating at a nearby pizza parlour.

After dinner we headed towards our campgrounds. By the time we reached our destination, it was1:00 AM and we had to find our campsites and pitch our tents in the dark.

Saturday morning soon arrived; Larry & Hong went for a hike and found a historical art site: the very spot where Tom Thompson painted the famous “Jack Pine”! Sadly the tree was no longer there, as it had died some time ago; later some campers cut it down and used the wood as firewood.

After the discovery, they headed back towards the camp to meet up with the rest of the group and prepared themselves for the journey ahead.

After much candy target for the local mosquitoes, we finally arrived at our new campgrounds and settled in. After putting up the tents, we headed over to the swimming hole that was discovered earlier by Hong & Ha and Rogelio found a great spot to get a message. Thanks guys!

After our dinner of sausages, rice and vegetarian friendly dal palak, courtesy of Vanessa, our grocery person, we headed towards the swimming grounds for some stargazing; was it amazing! Ha, Rogelio, Anna-Maria, Hendrik & Hong (our night owls) were lucky as they got a glimpse of the shooting stars; all, that is except for Ha as she was too busy chatting with her eyes closed to catch all 4… uh-hum 5!

The next day we headed back to the city; on our way we ran across a moose eating his lunch along Highway 60! He didn’t seem to mind even though his crowd kept growing. He just stood there and ate his meal for at least 10 minutes before retreating back into the woods.

Until next time, thanks for coming out!
