Tue, Mar 20 2007 - Slideshow: An Eco-tour of Lake Superior (View Original Event Details)
|
First of all, many thanks to David for putting together this presentation for the TOC, as well as the TOC discount he has set up at Naturally Superior Adventures, as well as to Steph and Dom for hosting, and for Mary Jo and Torfinn for coming and sharing with us their knowledge of Michipicoten Bay (see the February 2007 newsletter) and Lake Superior. Us TOCers were really lucky to have all of them there.
David spoke to us about the history and geography of Lake Superior before taking us on a tour of the North Shore - he shared with us really interesting places and stories - hey, we now all know what we need to do to become citizens of Nirvinia - as well as the local animal population - where it's best to see woodland caribou - and pictures of secret Pukaskwa Pits (these were built by Anishnaabe and range from thousands to hundreds of years old).
We also learnt about the trips that Naturally Superior offers - sea kayaking and voyageur canoe - around the Lake Superior coast, out to Michipicoten Island, and up to Dennison Falls on the Dog River (a favourite spot of people like Bill Mason).
Naturally Superior Adventures is offering TOC members a special discount on all their trips and other offerings (such as the B&B from which you could do day hikes and paddles from). To find out more, visit: http://naturallysuperior.com/toc.
Thanks again to everyone who attended this event - it was great to meet some new faces, and of course we were very happy to have David present and Mary Jo and Torfinn be there to talk about Superior.
