Write Up:

There were sixteen people on today's event. It rained on the drive to the Cheltenham Badlands but the rain reduced to “on & off” showers by the time we parked the cars. The temperature was around 8C, which was pretty comfortable.

Several sections of the Bruce Trail were closed. We thought they might be closed so the trail could regenerate but there were “no trepassing signs”. It looks like farmers have stopped allowing access. We walked along the road and picked up the trail at 007, the Olde Base Line Rd Trail. There were three trees down that we had to scramble over, an attestment to the high winds that were forecast the previous couple of days.

There were apples everywhere all along our route, fall harvest apples that would be shaken off the trees by high winds. We munched on various varieties including russet & northern spy.

The Cheltenham Badlands must be seen at least once. There are red and white clay, rolling hills, with deep crevices where more porous soil has eroded away. The rain caused the area to be quite muddy & slippery and definitely warranted changing footwear so we didn’t drag mud into the cars.

Back in the cars we drove about 2k to The Spirit Tree Cidery. We had a lunch selection of soup, quiche, barley salad, sandwiches & pizza, and, of course, cider…! After lunch some of us bought cider, ice cider, maple syrup, & baked goods.

Many thanks to all of our drivers. We could not hold these out of town events without you.

$29.00 was collected in donations.
