Mon, Feb 20 2012 - Early Bird Toronto Island Winter Walk (View Original Event Details)
|
Gorgeous sunrise and essentially our own private ferry over were just two of the many ways that helped make this walk rock.
Once we hit the Islands we explored the lovely mix of remaining houses at Wards. We also peeked at the ill-fated Rochester Ferry Terminal. Our perch by the Eastern Channel afforded us wonderful views of the Leslie Spit too.
From there it was on to group photo at the beach while the Baywatch theme sound thumped in the background (or maybe just in my head). Off to the boardwalk for a lovely stroll to the Centre Island Pier. We continued on to the Island Farm to take a gander at some birds. Soon it was time for our snack break.
Refueled, the group soldiered on past the old and new schools, the lighthouse, ye olde trout pond, and finally arrived at Hanlan's statue. We walked back and arrived with ample time to take a much deserved rest before hopping back on the ferry to the mainland.
Oh and don't go looking for the hedge maze at Centre Island anytime soon. We found out that it is totally gone and will return in a new, improved version on June 1.
TOC donations collected = $18.50
