|
Who really wants to camp in freezing temperatures anyway? Well lots of people seemed to be interested from the outset however, slowly but surely people starting dropping out leaving the hard core six of us to head out to the pinery. Elliott, Rob and Sivanny in one car and Jason, Alex and Sara in the other, we eventually left the city after a quick supermarket and booze run, and got to the pinery in good time (4hrs). On arrival, we managed to get a fire going and a midnight hike before the night was out. It was bitterly cold the first night and poor Alex (in his -5 bag), Sara (In dominics borrowed bag) and Sivanny (in a -30 bag???!!!) hardly slept through the night, however all of us know how well Jason slept that night! The following day over breakfast and a bit of bird watching (commentary from Rob) we all decided to go x-country sking and went on the chickadee trail which was a beginners trail .... that was a lot of fun, especially the little wooden shacks on route where warm fires were waiting. Sara broke her ski and had to Hike back. Jason, Siv and Elliott continued to ski later in the day, while the others did their own thing, including sleeping! We all met back for pot luck and general fire chit chat into the evening. The second night was a lot warmer thankfully and people seemed more rested on Sunday morning. Some of us skied again in the morning before packing up and heading out. We had one last Tims meet up near London and the group split and the kind drivers ensured all of us got back to our homes directly. Everybody agreed that the skiing was the highlight of the trip, as the pinery is a beautiful place to explore and the weather was so bright and clear despite the cold.
