Well we had about 10 members come out and learn about winter camping 101 - sled design. I used a PowerPoint presentation to run through some history and professional sleds available.

Sleds are a great way to carry your gear when traversing frozen lakes and easy trails in the Canadian winter. Last year we had 2 TOC winter camping events where we used sleds [Frontenac Park (2010 02 05-07) and Algonquin Park (2010 02 19-21)].

The focus of the lecture was on homemade sleds. Our first step is to make a list of requirements you want your sled to do.

We reviewed the materials, construction techniques, cost, stores where you get your supplies, and time required to build your own homemade winter camping sled.

I showed mine and other member sleds designs.

We ended the evening talk with some question and answers and some hands on with some of my sleds.

See you all soon. Gary
