Sun, Jul 18 2010 - Rock Climbing and Rappelling (View Original Event Details)
|
It was a great sunny clear blue ski day for our true outdoor club event. Paul, Michael and Robby from Equinox Adventures were there to greet us at the upper parking lot of Rattle Snake Conservation Area in Milton. We started with signing waiver forms and getting our gear on. A brief safety briefing followed by a short hike to the cliffs. The cliffs are 80 feet high. Various ropes were set up. We all watched and learned about the correct way to tie in, call out the commands and proper climbing etiquette guidelines. We had a variety of experience levels. For some it was the first time they have challenged themselves to something like this. For others they have done the indoor rock climbing walls. We divided up in teams of 3. Three teams climbing and 1 team rappelling. The climbing team would have one person climbing, one person belaying and one person as a backup belaying. This worked out very well were we all had a change to rest and learn by practicing the moves and knots. We had a quick lunch break and got to know some of the members and contemplated our next challenge. We keep climbing/rapelling until around 3 pm when a few drops and just being fatigue we all decided we would rap it up for the afternoon. For me those tight climbing shoes really convinced me to call it a day. I really like the rappelling the best(use normal boots), since gravity was doing most of the work. My son Steven, like the climbing the best. We returned to the trailer and unloaded the gear. Our next stop was Ted Devines in Milton for some refreshments. See you all soon.
