A very Spring-like day greeted us as the group gathered by the St George Subway entrance in anticipation of our walk.

For the most part we followed official City bike routes as we headed North East but also spotted some tricky areas where cyclists have to do things like walk their bike for close to 100M due to awkward linkages. There people also learned of my strong dislike for illegal signage and what steps can be taken to address it.

Once we hit St Clair Ave we marveled at the huge, vacant building that once served as Imperial Oil headquarters. With a spare $70 million or so it could be yours.

Soon we found ourselves at Sherwood Park where Woody showed us that the water was just fine for drinking and swimming in.

From there we scrambled up an icy path where two brave skiers (!) also enjoyed the slipperiness below.

Once at Bayview the group made its way across a pedestrian footbridge which, despite its age, had no problem supporting us all. Once we traversed that we checked out the lovely CNIB grounds. There both Louis and I were able to tell people about the wonderful volunteer opportunities to bicycle with blind and visually impaired riders by way of the Toronto Trailblazers tandem cycling club.

By now folks were very eager to enjoy their hard-earned ice cream and gelato. We headed South past a recently shuttered GM dealership, then Toronto’s first shopping plaza Sunnybrook (1951). Finally, in the distance, we spotted a bunch of orange balloons that could mean just one thing, ice cream time! TOC took over the patio at Hollywood Gelato as we enjoyed their awesome special prices. Then the group gradually shrunk as some folks headed home.

We walked off the icy treats by proceeding down to St Clair Subway again by taking some of the City’s suggested bike routes.

Once again thanks to Micheal we have some great photos and accurate GPS info for the walk. You can see it in map form here.
