Write Up:
As we appraoched the entrance of the park, most were eagerly anticipating the 'Carolinian Forests' that we had heard so much about. So imagine our surprise to dive into the park, surprisingly barren of trees. Spread throughout a marsy football field, the peaks of many tents were visible. It was the first of several surprises that weekend! The second surprise, was the realization that our site was right next to the showers, a fairly busy area. However, it turned out to be quite convenient, as we all took advantage of their proximity. On the first evening we arrived, a stroll down to check out the beach was a must. The vastnest of Lake Erie was breath taking, and the water was surprisingly warm. Saturday, the rain arrived, and contined off and on through the weekend. We hastily erected several tarps to keep us dry and spent the afternoon entertaining ourselves with board games and cards. However druing the drier periods, many groups ventured out to explore the park and all it had to offer. Jo and Tamara braved the rain and spend both Saturday and Sunday cycling the various trails, where they discovered the famed 'Carolinina Forsts'. There were several trip to the local store for ice cream. And the warm water was experienced and enjoyed by most at some point during the weekend. That evening, as the weather improved, we enjoyed plentiful amounts of food at our potluck dinner, and as always, the conversations were interesting, stimulating, and lasted well into the wee hours of the morning. After a fantastic late breakfast Sunday morning, and some more exploring, the group began to disperse and prepare for the long drive back to the city. Although the weather, and the physical site of the camp itself could have been better, as always , when you combine the diverse membership the TOC and the interesting personalities, we had a great weekend. Thanks to all who participated!!
