Well what a day I will never forget!! Its was the biggest day in Football, that's soccer to you North Americans. France versus Italy after favorites where defeated. Brazil, England, Spain and Portugal, all relegated to the sidelines. I was there a tad early and met the manager of Shoeless Joe's called Gimmy, that ji-mm-ie!! He set up out table in front of the big screen and I waited my other cohorts of the day. After a huge crowd of French and Italian fans showed up, the game started. With both sides getting loud cheers and jeers in the games change of pace, it was a good game all around with a good atmosphere. Then the infamous moment happened. Late in overtime, the second half, Marco Materazzi was head butted in the chest by Zinedine Zidane, Zizou. Red Carded our Captain left the field. The Italians went on to win, to the dismay of this coordinator. David, wanting a party all day long rooted for the Italian team, ribbing me at every opportunity. Grant showed up late and seemed more amused by my feverish approval or shock to the games moments. Melissa seemed speechless and worried at all these fanatics screaming, banging and buoyant behavior. As for Cynthia, she sat watching and chatting with David with a big grin on her face, taking it all in with skepticism at what she was seeing. With 2006 over and done, with the World Cup of 2010 beckons! See you all in 4 years!!
