Write Up:
Originally, we were supposed to do the "Bolting to Bolton" ride today. However, when Helene and I were the only ones left for the event, we decided to re-invent the day to suit ourselves. Due to the strong wind, we decided to stay closer to home, and to invent a huge east-west loop ride that would take us from St. George and Bloor, to the Don Valley Multi-Purpose Pathway and then all the way west to The West Mall Road, before finding our way home again via the Toronto Waterfront Trail. Despite the occasionally gusting wind, Helene and I had an amazing ride. We started at 10:10 a.m. and rode until about 5:20 p.m., with breaks totalling only about 1.3 hours. The ride challenged us with several hills in different locations. At some points we were cold and put on extra sweaters and neck-warmers; at other points, the sun seemed to settle on our exposed skin, which was protected with sun block, with a lovely spring warmth. In the end, we rode, I figure, close to 90 km. And we both felt as if we could have gone further. For early in the cycling season, we both felt great and we are looking forward to more cycling and longer distances in the weeks and months ahead.
