Eleven of us gathered on a chilly Saturday morning to begin our bike ride along the Humber River trail. While the day started off on the cooler side, it was sunny, and the day held the promise of warmer weather: up to 10 degrees!

As we headed north along the river, we lamented that the wind was blowing hard in our faces, making the trek seem more difficult. But, since eventually we knew we would be going south again, many were excited about biking with the wind at our backs. Ironically, as we turned around to head south, the wind seemed to change direction also... once again, blowing into our faces! It wasn’t too long before the wind died down, and several could breathe a sigh of relief.

It was a lovely ride along the river: we saw a man fishing, some of the birds were singing, and we heard a woodpecker. Sharing the trail with us were several people walking, biking, and enjoying the long weekend.

Our bike route looped back to Old Mill station, and then three of our group had to leave, so we paused for a break and said our farewells. The rest of the group continued our journey southward. We soon rounded a curve, and came upon beautiful views of the lake!

Eventually we came up through High Park, rode up our last steep hill, and came up to Bloor Street West to end our trip.

After the ride, 5 of us enjoyed a relaxing brunch at Sharkey’s, near Runnymede, on Bloor Street West. Overall, it was a very fun way to spend a Saturday in the city.
