Kukagami Summer Weekend Once again we had a great trip to Kukagami. Here are the highlights of the participants who sent them to me. Pia: My highlight would have to be the incredible food. Vicki makes such great organic food that you really feel you're eating healthy, however, I eat twice as much as I do at home, so no pounds lost. My lowlight would have to be my hornet sting. It has only just stopped itching today. Anita: Highlights for me of Kukagami Lodge weekend: 1. Spending time in the sun "supervising the dock", as we called it, while getting to know my co-supervisors better. 2. Learning to play Apples to Apples, & creaming everyone at it! 3. Eating way too much of Viki's extremely delicious & healthy culinary creations. 4. Getting taxied back from the floating dock by Kate on her sail board Thanks to you & Alison for organizing a very fun time. Margaret: My good memories ... Canoeing into the lodge on Friday with my pal Stacy, kayaking to the old growth and taking a quick swim, learning how to sauna, reading each evening in our nice quiet cabin. Not so good ... The hornet stings that kept itching for almost two weeks! Jan. Here are my 3 memorable events. 1. Surprised close encounter with a moose while canoeing solo in an inlet of the lake. 2. Getting dumped while paddling (solo again) in a Dire Straight against very gusty winds on the lake. 3. Getting beaten by 10? year-old daughter of the lodge owners in a "banana scrabble" game (I forgot the name of the game). ME (David): Many of my highlights include canoeing. I appreciated Jan’s invitation to canoe with me from the parking lot to the lodge, something I would not have contemplated to try without an experienced canoeist in the stern. I also liked sterning a canoe with Xinyue across the lake and back in windy conditions to visit the old growth trees. My third canoe highlight was sitting in the middle of the canoe on the trip back to the parking lot with Jan and Alison paddling away while I enjoyed the scenic view. As always at Kukagami the Mathers created a warm and comfortable atmosphere and of course Viki’s food was great!
