Write Up:
We had a great day at the Royal Botanical Gardens on Saturday. The weather was initially overcast, then the sky cleared so that there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. We had a terrific group of people who shared an interest in gardening/aesthetics, and lots of pictures were taken (unfortunately, most of mine were lost though a battery mishap, but no point in crying over spilled 1s and 0s! [a very lame joke for the IT folks out there]) Despite the fact that we visited the greenhouse, the rose garden, the laking garden, the rock garden, and the arboretum, our pace was relaxed and easy-going. We even took a short hike from the rose garden to the laking garden. Along the boardwalk were squirrels, red-winged blackbirds, and one downy-headed (?) woodpecker – all gorging themselves on piles of birdseed left along the boardwalk. The woodpecker briefly landed on Grant’s outstretched hand until it realized he had no food to offer! Grant has been a regular visitor to the Gardens, and, as soon as he let this fact slip, he was commissioned to be our impromptu guide. He did a great job of ensuring that we saw as much as possible, and sharing the various facts and insights he’s gained through repeated visits. He also managed to hold his own as the only male in our group! Have I mentioned yet that it was a great group? Everyone was so much fun, and so easy-going. We had some great conversation, lots of laughs, and it was a pleasure to spend time with these people. The RBG is definitely going to be a repeated event – perhaps a few times each year to catch the various flowers in bloom!
