Write Up:
Distance-32km Duration-7 hours On top of old baldy.... we took a quick lunch break First off I would like to actually congratulate this group for allof their efforts on saturday. Thank you for coming out despite the forcast, driving the 2 hours to Flesherton/Eugenia falls and allowing me to change the hike back to its original D5 status. And a tough D5 it was, in distance and terrain especially. We did the straight-forward hike form eugenia falls to old baldy, this portion of the trail is newer and lightly traveled but the cliffs are high and the views are quite nice. We caught the tail end of the "fall colours" I promised in the event details. Being both curious and a little ambitious I wanted to cross the valley via the eloquently named valley crossover side trail. Here we managed to find a ski hill to climb (like TOCers have been known to do recently). It was part of the beaver valley ski club. I personally plan to reinvestigate this area on another trip, this is some steep climbing!! In the end we had to do some road hiking to get back tot he cars since the group was tiring and taking the trail all the way back would have brought us over 35km. We were fortunate to avoid rain for most of the day and it was actually a nice cool day for hiking, the sun even made a few brief appearances. All in all it was a long day but I hope everyone enjoyed themselves, saw some sights they otherwise wouldn't have and maybe learned something about the fellow hikers, the club and/or themselves. Hope to see you all at the AGM and another event in the near future.
