Sat, Aug 16 2008 - Bike the Muskoka Lake Loop in a Day (93 km) (View Original Event Details)

Event Coordinator(s): Jim O
Participants:Venko, David B, Jim O

Write Up:
This ride turned out to be very challenging, with lots of steep hills to climb, but the scenery was very pleasant and there were good places to stop for refreshments along the way. There are two versions of the ride--one about 92 km and the other about 102 km. Venko and Jim did the longer route, and then accidentally added on a 20 km detour. This resulted in a ride of about 119.6 km in a day! David B. did parts of the longer route, but went a shorter distance (likely about 85 km or so). There were stops in Port Carling and Bala prior to returning to Bracebridge. In Port Carling, one can find an excellent lunch at a place called Ella's, directly across from the tourist information centre in the downtown. David and Jim stayed overnight at B & B in the Bracebridge area, so as to avoid a long ride home on the day of the ride. This proved to be an excellent idea, as the B & B was very comfortable and breakfast in the morning was yummy. Recommendation: This is an excellent ride to do, but it is challenging, due to significant hills, and requires a lot of on-road riding. Those who do this ride should be experienced on-road cyclists, and all riders should be equipped with fluorescent vests and bike lights.
