There's just something about this hike, this particular forest, that has a rejuvenating effect. Of course, every hike transforms the people in it. You can see the change every single time. People always look different - and better - at the end of a good hike. Everything "worldly" and unwanted is left at the trail's head for a time and weary faces are replaced with a happier, radiant appearance.

It's just more pronounced, somehow, at Sherman/Tiffany Falls. The last time, the colour of the fallen leaves surrounded the eye with a warm orangey glow that flattered everyone and buoyed the spirit, making us feel vibrant and alive and yet peaceful and comforted at the same time. This time, the transient and surreal green of the budding trees - which would have been washed out if there had been bright sunlight - reflected a cool but gentle light that gave everything and everyone more...definition, if you will. It was a different light but also flattering and the hikers looked fresh and youthful at the end of this hilly, challenging climb, even if that's NOT how they felt...!

The several new members turned out to be excellent hikers and fit right in immediately. At the end of the hike, we did the carpool and got in the cars. One minute later the first raindrops started to hit the windshields. Yet another bet was lost/request ignored (see the organiser's ongoing saga with the forces of the universe in the upcoming newsletter - no,not really) and new acquaintances were made in one of the prettiest hikes in Southern Ontario.

It was a great day and a great hike!
