What a weekend! And, despite stories to the contrary, I only had open sores and a bruise which meant I was to stay away from lake water. My foot remained firmly attached to my body...but with such a great number of people and so many stories and activities - the overeager park wardens, the huge amounts of food at the potluck, Carrie and Bill and their Jewish camp song repertoire - Neil Young and The Dead, Jenn P and her group camping site idea, Mitch & Sue's psychedelic VW van, English flag to support the footie team, Jason is driving the pick up! JL at the beach, Paula and I watching girls apply make up and using "EYELASH CURLERS" in the comfort station. Cheddar smokies and sauerkraut for breakfast. Everyone owes me a bottle of wine, still!
I left it up to everyone else to give me their stories and memories
Gerry was the first to respond with some stories: Gerry, Saif and Jason extended their bike ride to 67 km as they missed their turn and continued happily along to Owen Sound, luckily Jo had Jason's number on his cellphone to remind him they may want to return to the campsite before the weekend ended. Everyone should remember Gerry's great joke at the potluck! He promised us he had a good one...remember to call upon Gerry for jokes at your next campsite!
My memories of Sauble..."Mac's Milk" camping (what a
pleasure to be able to drive to the corner store for a
freshly brewed coffee in the morning), great
conversations with fantastically worldly and
interesting people, including a final conversation on
the beach on Sunday that had at its core a "sticky
biscuit" (Elliot...), badminton doubles with Paula
Schwebel who grabbed that birdy even when it crossed
over onto my side of the road! Lucking out and getting
to cycle to a beautiful Ontario town like Southampton
with a gregarious and enthusiastic leader like Mitch
who suggested we go further than we originally
planned, past a First Nations community, past mooing
cows, past cheap cigarette shops (I didn't buy
any)....I could go on and on but I've far surpassed a
few sentences. A great weekend. TOC ROCKS.

It was fun to see some "old buddies" from TOC again and to meet more new people on that trip - all very interesting in their uniqueness and diversity.
As a few highlights of my camping experiences: a "just float" experience as a silent meditation that was [silently] suggested to us (myself, Gaby, and fair Elliott) by Hyun during our canoeing excursion on the quiet river amid the beautiful green trees and many birds singing. Thank you Hyun, you are one of those rare people with whom I felt great to share a few silent minutes. Another very special experience for me was to wake up early on Sunday morning and to enjoy a quiet walk to the Sauble Beach and a serene cordial conversation with Hyun on the way. - Hyun, thank you again for waking me up at 6:30AM, morning hours are most precious ones! :) We found some wild strawberries walking back to the camp from the beach - which I haven't seen for many many years, and it was a tiny but precious surprise for me :)
As Hyun is a perfect companion for sharing some experiences for one's spirit, soul and mind, there was another simply fantastic TOC member responsible for providing some most enjoyable experiences for one's taste buds and happy tummies and it was indeed Jason, The Great Chef of TOC. I am raising a virtual glass of wine to his ceaseless cooking for the group of 20! Cheers Jason and keep cookin'! And special thanks for baking potatoes a' la "my childhood" style - they were delicious!"
:)

Sauble Falls was an excellent camping trip, I have never had the pleasure of
spending time and getting to know such a variety of different people. There
were definately some interesting conversations, and all felt welcome to
contribute to these. The great outdoors was refreshing, the weather
beautiful, the food was abundant and the laughs loud and hearty. Thanks to
all who attended for making it a great experience!

What can I say, the future is bright in this country. Every event we
have the pleasure to attend brings such interesting, vivid, well
educated, multi interests and fun to be with people .It must be the
Canadian air and without a doubt the charm and extraordinary talents of
TOC president..Steph.
It is hard to distinguish what was good and what was even better
on this trip to Sauble Falls. Maybe the bike ride could be longer
(next time)?.we just ended in Southhampton could go to Port Elgin.?,
and so much delicious food provided in pot-luck-!! We were so stuffed
and did not have to eat until supper next day ....All participants
contributed their talents in cooking, entertaining, conversations , and
all in that nice friendly Canadian way. We even have our own "wonder
women"---Carrie, she not only did 67 km on her brand new bike (received
just the day before) in very good style, but in the evening was able to
charm us with her musical talent, playing guitar flawlessly and
singing to every ones enjoyment. Thank you Carrie.you made the day.
We "rush" back to TO for Canada Day celebration and looking forward
for more good times in Bon Echo.
cheers.Sue and Mitch
