The first long weekend hike with TOC was a lot of fun.
Du Linh had her first opportunity to join the club’s event, after one of the participants had dropped off just a couple of days earlier.
We started on Saturday morning, and it was cloudy and windy all the way to Cape Chin. We started hiking at Smoky head at around 2 PM, and we had some sun on the 8 Km hike, that took us 2 ¼ hr.
The forecast called for some snow during the night, and we woke up to a cloudy day with rain, but no snow. At Breakfast time on Sunday we met other people who stayed at the same place, and learned that they brought their horses and went riding in the same area we were hiking.
We drove to White Bluffs trail, and headed North to Smokey head access point. We left one car at the end point, and took the other to the starting point. Leon had enjoyed sharing the back seat of the car with three other women, and additional two at the front seat. Steph managed to bring us safely to the trail head, after maneuvering the car on Fourty - Hills Road, that has a lot of turns. When we arrived at the trail head we found out that new loops were added to the trail. So the planned hike was about to change, as we were interested in trying those trails. We started following the newly formed trail, and at a certain point, when we finished two loops, Jen and I wanted to complete the third one as well. The group decided to go for it as well, as we had lots of time, and everybody seemed to like the hike, that took us in some parts of the trail along the escarpment. The views are great and the varied terrain made it an interesting hike. It was drizzling on and off during the day, and we were lucky not to get completely soaked, and welcomed the short periods of sun. We completed the approx. 18 Km hike in 6 hrs, with a lot of stops along the escarpment.

Monday morning seemed more promising from the weather point of view. We checked out from the Cape Chin Connection Inn at 9 AM, and took the cars to Cape Chin North access point. We have done the two loops, had a small lake view and then back to the escarpment views, and finally arrived at the Devil’s monument.
The trail that took us down to shore was very slippery, but we managed to go down and enjoy for a while on the beach. Tricia had checked almost every big stone for fossils, and seemed to enjoy with so many stones and rocks that were spread on the beach.

We had a great weekend, great lookouts and a wonderful company.
