Itinerary:
It’s no joke! Join us for the first April weekend at the venerable Wolf Den Hostel! But there is one trick: being quick enough to sign up. (Hint: although registration says it opens @ 9 PM, the web server seems to be in a different time-space continuum, so try for an hour earlier.)

Andrew’s annual January event here was so in-demand that we jumped at the chance to book the hostel again ASAP. This time, though, we’ll be a more intimate group, and we only booked the entire inside lodge, which is 5 rooms of various configurations. For those of you who don’t know of this place yet, we’ll describe it, but also check out their website. There’s a large, fully equipped kitchen. You bring your food, but don’t need to bring any cooking pots or utensils (unless you consider tin foil a utensil, which you should bring if you need it.) There’s a huge restaurant-style fridge to store all our perishables, and lots of room to sit and eat in a group environment. Off the kitchen area are the bathrooms and showers. Upstairs we find a large loft with a fireplace and lots of comfy seating, books and games, conversation pieces, and some guitars for the musicians amongst us! Downstairs are the 5 rooms that we have booked. Outside is a sauna!

Activities

We’re aiming to do a group hike with everyone during the day on Saturday. It’ll still be early enough in the year that there will (should!) be snow, but this year so far has been really unpredictable (it’s going to +7 this weekend!) So the name of the game is flexibility, and we’ll come to a final decision closer to the date. We’d like to try for Mizzy Lake which is 11km and but conditions could dictate a shorter route.

Sunday will probably be the short hike to the falls before heading back home.

Icers will be mandatory, and snowshoes will probably be recommended!

Food

Bring your own food/snacks/drinks. We’re hoping to order some croissants/muffins from a local baker to supplement your breakfast (or pack along with your lunch) for Saturday morning, which we’ll all pitch in for (it’s very affordable!)

Accommodations

There are 5 rooms. One has a double bed and one a queen (+ a single) that needs to be shared in order to bring as many people as possible. If there is a couple signed up, they can have the double room, but there might not be any, so… please indicate in the notes if you are a couple, or if you are willing to share a bed with a same sex member. We really want to maximize the participants, so those willing to share might get preference on the wait list! The other rooms have singles, but still are shared rooms.

Linens are provided, as are pillows and one towel each.

Car Pool

Car pool time is 5 PM at Downsview. It’s a bit early for some people, but if you sign up you’re committing to be there on time. There’s a possibility for a group to go up earlier if there’s enough of you and a driver. We’ll be coordinating car pool drivers / passengers via email before the day.
