Itinerary:
PLEASE READ ALL BEFORE SIGNING UP. This is an all day event. We hope to be back at carpool location by early evening, but don't sign up to this event, if you need to be back home by a definite time. Note that the hiking distance has been modified to be about 12 km (and not 16 as originally posted). Route was modified by removing the 4km hike along the road.

We will pick up the Credit Valley Footpath a 12 km long side trail of Bruce Trail at Silver Creek Conservation area. This is a challenging yet, hopefully very interesting and scenic side trail hike into the historic past of the area. We go onto the footpath along the Credit River that takes us up and down the embankment to the ruins of the Paper Mill, to remnants of a the dam, while climbing and descending the the steep walls (with as much as 40-metre-high climbs) of the valley several times until we reach the ruins of Barber Dynamo which in 1880 provided power to the paper mill upstream.

I've not hiked this trail, but from what I read, it sounds challenging. The hiking pace will be approximately 4 km per hour OR LESS. I am a slow hiker, making frequent stops to take photos :) Please be prepared to respect my style of hiking. Thanks. We will hike as a group, and thus, wait as necessary for everyone, If you think you'll have uncontrollable urges to be constantly on the move or to sprint ahead, this is NOT an event for you. Speedsters will be put at the back of the line.

The trails may be muddy/wet and slippery. Make sure you have proper foot ware and dress for the weather. I don't know what the conditions will be like on the day of the event, but due to steep descents and ascents, so that you are prepared, you must also have icers or crampons or traction attachments to your boots. If I think there be risk of ice/snow on the day of the hike, I will check, at the carpool, that you have icers in your pack. If you don't you will not be permitted to come along. Period. So, BEFORE you sign up, please ensure you have them, just in case, due to weather, you need to use them. If you don't know what they are, here is one example..http://www.mec.ca/product/5015- 800/stabilicers-lite-cleat-traction-device/?q=traction There are many others.

Please ensure you can hike the distance over the steep up/down and wet terrain at the specified pace BEFORE you sign up.

BE PREPARED: We will be hiking rain/snow or shine. Also bring a change of boots/shoes in case your feet get wet.

The event involves a car shuttle. Those who are willing to drive will be moved preferentially off the waiting list. The event may be cancelled if there are not enough drivers signed up, or alternative plan be proposed. More participants will be added if there are enough drivers.
