Doors Open is an annual series of events, when many sites in Ontario communities open their doors to the general public. As part of this hike, we'll visit the following 6 sites in Richmond Hill.

# Site Description
1 Richmond Hill Hindu Temple This temple was built under the Agama Sastra traditions, which prescribe a unique method of temple construction that is quite different from the more prevalent Hindu traditions.
2 Richmond Hill Artifact Storage Centre This building houses thousands of artifacts in a climate- controlled facility. Many of the artifacts were donated by local families, and are preserved for the future generations.
3 Eyer-Wideman Homestead and Ropes Challenge Course Built in 1828, this building was originally a Pennsylvania-German Mennonite dwelling. Today, it's used as a local youth centre, featuring an outdoor high and low ropes challenge course, and a climbing wall.
4 St. Mary's Anglican Church Built in 1872 as the first church in the original village of Richmond Hill, this white brick building is a scaled-down version of St. James Cathedral in Toronto.
5 Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church Built in 1880, this church campus is home to the "Dead House", a rare surviving example of an octagonal cemetery storage vault. Such vaults were used to store dead bodies during severe winters, until the ground became suitable enough for digging graves.
6 Richmond Hill Heritage Centre (Amos Wright House) Situated in the picturesque Amos Wright Park, this Ontario Regency-style cottage house was built in 1840.

Please note that this is an urban hike — 10 km of walking with not-so-short breaks at each of the sites. You'll be disappointed if you're expecting a swift hike along the Oak Ridges trail.
