Itinerary:
The Seaton Trail is a wonderful hiking trail on the EAST side of the city (for once!) It doesn’t get as much attention as it deserves, likely due to its relatively short distance, but it has its own challenges and beauty that we’ll explore during this hike.

We will start at the south end and go UP (north to Whitevale, where the bridge is closed). That’s about 10 km the one way, mostly uphill. We’ll stop for lunch before heading back (down) to the cars, another 10 km.

But this is a hike with a twist. We’ll be geocaching on the way up. That means we get to make plenty of rest breaks while we stop and hunt for the hidden caches. Don’t know what geocaching is? Or heard of it but still are not sure what to do? Check out this page & video from geocaching.com to learn more!

What you should know before you sign up:

  • You don’t need to bring a GPS, I will have mine, and it’s enough for us all to participate in hunting for caches.
  • Total hike distance will be ~ 20 km. So you must be able to hike that distance on hilly terrain.
  • We'll be hiking ~4 - 4.5 km / hr
  • On the way up, we’ll be making at least 6 stops to hunt for geocaches, so if you just want a non-stop hike, this is NOT for you!
  • On the way down, we will likely just keep going, since we will have already found the caches on the way up
  • Weather: if it’s calling for light rain, the hike WILL GO. Heavy, persistent rain in the forecast and it’ll probably be cancelled.
  • Anyone meeting at the event should be there for 11AM sharp
  • Car Pool leaves at 10:30 AM SHARP
