Itinerary:
The goal of our hike will be to hike the Duff Pit Side Trail. The whole hike will be on the Bruce Trail in Silver Creek Conservation Area / Scotsdale Farm areas. I’ve hiked many times in that area, but have never taken the extra time to go “out of the way” to step foot on the Duff Pit Side Trail. And it’s time to do something about that!

We’ll start off the hike by taking the Bennett Heritage side trail. Once meeting up with the main trail, we head south to the entrance of (the elusive) Duff Pit side trail. According to the Bruce Trail guide, there is a waterfall on the trail (although I can’t guarantee a spectacular view of it at this time of year!). Once we come back out to the main trail, we will follow it back to 27 sideroad, which we’ll use to take a short cut back to the parking lot, but not before stopping to admire the beautiful Fallbrook Bridge. The bridge was built around 1900, and is the original structure. It’s of historic value to the area, and a study was done to consider closing the road to vehicular traffic in order to help preserve the bridge.

Read before signing up:

  • The hike will be approx. 14.5 km
  • We hike at 4.0 - 4.5 km / hour on average
  • We’ll stop for a lunch break about half way through
  • We hike RAIN or shine. Or Snow, for that matter. (Don’t sign up if you only want to hike if it’s sunny.)
  • This is the Bruce Trail: Proper footwear is mandatory. Proper hiking boots or shoes only.
