Itinerary:

INTRO TO BACKCOUNTRY SKIING

Wooohooo snow! Let's go enjoy a day of backcountry cross country skiing in the rolling hills of the Oak Ridges moraine north of Pickering. No crowds, no trail fees, great snow and so close to Toronto! Basic touring skis are fine (no racing skis as they are too thin). If you need to rent call MEC or Europebound to reserve some. There are no facilities at Walker Woods.
THIS IS NOT AN EVENT FOR BEGINNERS!

THE PLAN:
We will spend 3-4 hours exploring approx 14 km of trails before heading to Port Union for a late lunch at the Black Dog. (Trails run through hardwood and deciduous forest and across open hillside and most have tracks set by previous skiers. )

CARPOOL: Meet at Kennedy Station, Passenger pick up.

Required Items to Bring:
XC skis
Dress in layers for winter weather (expect to be out 4 hours). You may end up in a snow drift even if you are a good skier.
