Ride Hamilton Trails

Length: About 65 km

This is a good opportunity to explore paved trails and bike-friendly streets of Hamilton. This ride is for experienced riders, you must be comfortable riding in a group, riding in traffic and taking your bicycle up and down the stairs as there are stairs and climbs on the way. The ride will go on rain or shine, please have the appropriate clothing and enough water as there are some parts of the route with no stores or drinkable water sources.

We will meet at the parking lot of Burlington GO station. There is no carpool for this event as most of the group will arrive on the 9:00 AM train from the Union Station (please note that subways start running at 9:00 AM on Sundays). If you are taking the train from a different station please check the schedule as you may have to take another train (departing Union stn at 8:43 AM). You will need to buy your ticket from the machine or ticket booth before boarding the train. 2-4 bikes are allowed in every carriage except the accessibility carriage. Those arriving by car please allow enough time to put together and check your bike(s) so it is ready by the group departure time.

We will start the ride by going to the lake shore and taking Waterfront trail along the beach to Confederation park. Then we will proceed to New Mountain rd and go up the escarpment (CAUTION: this climb is very steep and may require walking, please wear comfortable and stable shoes). After taking in the view from the lookout point, we will head to Escarpment Rail Trail entrance. We are taking quieter roads but you must be comfortable riding in traffic. Once there, we will coast right into the downtown core. Please make sure your brakes are working and ride at the speed you are comfortable with to avoid potholes and pedestrians on our way down. After that we will ride to the inner harbour and have lunch in one of the parks on the way. Then we will cross the harbour on the York St bridge and head back to Burlington Go station.
