ESCAPE TO PARADISE

Spring Flowers and Arboretum Hike at RBG

Spring is here, so let's head out to enjoy its beauty at the Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG) We'll start with a leisurely stroll though the Rock Garden and enjoy RBG's flowering bulb display that includes tulips, daffodils and hyacinths. It's hard to predict the peak flowering times and what could be in bloom on the day of our visit, but hopefully our timing is good to enjoy many splashes of colour. Also, hopefully, the adjacent cherry trees will still be in bloom.

We will then take a short drive over to the Arboretum where we'll explore some of their collections. Hopefully, our timing is good to catch the blooms of magnolias, crab apple and japanese cherry trees.

We will then explore some of the 10 KM of trails and lookouts on the north side of Cootes Paradise, pausing often to admire the sights, wild flowers, trees, birds, take a few photos, have lunch, etc, etc... Bring a pair of binoculars, if you have them, and we'll see if we can spot the bald eagles that are nesting nearby.

As you already noted, you need to look at other TOC events if you're looking for a fast paced hike!

The event will go rain or shine (unless there is thunderstorm). Dress for the weather and if necessary bring a change of shoes/clothes. Regardless of the weather, the trails may be muddy and steep, thus, sturdy hiking footwear is a requirement.

I have personally never ventured past the 'main attractions' of the gardens but always wanted to, so this is also a great opportunity for me to do some exploration.

This is Galina's first event as a volunteer for TOC. Please email your questions to her!
