Saturday morning, 13 of us met at Kennedy Station and left for the Rouge River Conservation area parking to meet up with 3 more who were meeting at the event. Upon arrival all 16 of us gathered to discuss the plan, share basic instructions and to assign a lead and a sweep - then we were off. We could not have picked a better day if we had planned it. Sunny skies, warm temperatures and very light wind. For the time of year, it was spectacular. The hike was beautiful meandering through forests, beside the creek, with some views and even a few tough climbs. We travelled some loops and some linear trails where backtracking was required. There were lots of leaves on the ground so we had to be careful about where we stepped as many rocks and roots were hiding under those leaves, and it was very slippery in some sections. But everyone managed well, and the ladies really enjoyed having porta johns on the trail. Elizabeth had great fun foraging for milk weed. We accomplished 14.4km at an average moving pace of 4.5 km/hr. Well done! All in all a great day made even greater by the wonderful group of people who came out to enjoy it together. A warm thanks to our willing car pool drivers as these hikes could not happen without them. $16 was collected in voluntary donations.
