It may have poured rain first thing in the morning, but that didn't dissuade the eight of us. The rain had stopped completely by the time we started walking at around 10:20 a.m. and it stayed dry until the end of the hike.

We first headed over the King's Mill bridge. From there, you could see some dead salmon along the banks of the river.

We headed a little bit north into Etienne Brule Park so a few people could take a bathroom break. There we saw a great egret and a flock of mallards, including some that looked like hybrids. We walked up to the Old Mill Dam, where some ring-billed gulls were snacking on some of the dead salmon.
After that, we headed south along the west shore of the Humber River, following the Humber River, Old Mill & Marshes Discovery Walk. Along the way, we saw common grackles, northern cardinals, blue jays, a greater-crested cormorant, more great egrets, a great blue heron, and a flock of small songbirds that we couldn't identify but may have been eastern kinglets. Elizabeth also saw a couple of mergansers.

We went as far as the pedestrian bridge at the mouth of the Humber (where we parted with Penny and her dog, who left in search of something to eat), then crossed over the east side and followed the walk north back to Bloor and Jane. With all the stops to look at the birds, it took us until about 1:30 p.m.

It ended up being a lovely hike - the rain didn't start up again until we were comfortably seated at the Henry VIII Ale House on Bloor, enjoying some great food and some nice conversation.
