Thanks Ed for a great presentation. Great motivation.

We had over 40 people at the event to kind of experience some of what Ed did over the summer hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.

The Pacific Crest Hiking Trail runs 2650 miles (4260 km) from Mexico to Canada along a series of mountain ranges dominated by the Sierra Nevada and the Cascade Range. Each year, a handful of “thru-hikers” backpack the entire trail in a single season. From the brutal heat of the Mojave Desert to the steep walled peaks of the High Sierra, and from the stark volcanic terrain of Central Oregon to the soaring vistas of the Northern Cascades, thru-hikers experience a wide variation in elevation, climate, weather, and wildlife.

The PCT, together with the Appalachian Trail (AT) and the Continental Divide Trail (CDT) form the “Triple Crown” of American long-distance hiking.

In his presentation, long-distance backpacker Ed Schmidt (AT’09/PCT’10) presented a travelogue of his 2010 PCT thru-hike and discuss the history, culture, and community that surround the US National Scenic Trails.

Ed had a informitive Q&A session and gear “show and tell” following the presentation. The Q&A covered a wide range of topics from what his base pack weight(9 lb) to how he poo'd in the woods. Very complete I must say!

Thanks again Ed!

See you all soon Gary
